So Spins the Earth
03:52
|
|||
remember that night in the garden
with the world spinning under our toes
how you kept me beggin your pardon
and I kept you from making a show
and everyone knows
that the world took your clothes
and left you to freeze in the sun
But I swear its alright
if you leave me tonight
to go out on your own with someone
Hallelu, oh hallelu
and the wise men have said
we'd be better off dead,
keep my name on your lips, Hallelu
last night I prayed for forgetting
tonight I'm just praying her name
Last night I watched the sun setting
tonight I'm just watching it rain
and it isn't the same
but it's dulling the pain
just watching the water come down
And I still haven't cried
or wished that I'd died
I just wish that you were around
Hallelu, oh Hallelu
and the wise men all know
what will come must then go,
and so spins the earth, Hallelu
With the stars to be my guide
I ain't far from being alright
and the dawn as it opens my eyes
lingers on as it crumbles and cries
It's nothing like painting a picture
it's nothing like burning a map
it's not that I felt I could fix her
she didn't need nothing like that
there was nothing she lacked
that she couldn't take back
it was only a matter of time
but the way that she smiled
it'll take me a while
to evict it from my simple mind
Hallelu, oh hallelu
and the wise men have said
we'd be better off dead,
keep my name on your lips, Hallelu
Hallelu, oh Hallelu
and the wise men all know
what will come must then go,
and so spins the earth, Hallelu

Someday Honey
02:16
|
|||
I am an archetect for days I haven't lived
I'm waiting for the meeting of the circle at both ends
but someday when I call you,
maybe you'll pick up
someday honey, someday mama, things are looking up
if forgiving was a bloodsport, you know I'd be the champ
but I'm getting tired of playing, now I'm moving on again
so I'm wiping clean your slate now,
'cause you've been through enough
now someday honey, someday mama, things are looking up
I ain't a prophet but I tend to think ahead
but I don't know a quarter of what I've seen you forget
and I still don't understand it,
all these moving parts to love
but someday honey, someday mama, things are looking up

Harvest Moon Light
03:40
|
|||
from the mouth of the river
in the song of the birds
that high lonesome crying
without any words
I have not the letters
to write what I hear
but I’ll try to remember,
whisper in your ear
when the harvest moon hung
so heavy and low
we wandered for hours
to where I don’t know
the sheep all lay down there
in the fields for the night
I remember you darlin’,
in the harvest moon light
when walking the cobble-
stone streets of the night
pretending that morning
won’t come with the light
out walking through gardens
and fountains of youth
if someone’s beside me
I’m glad that it’s you

Somewhere In Between
02:30
|
|||
if you said nothing, baby, I'd know what you mean
those burning eyes replay the sorry things you've seen
and this ain't Hell, no it's somewhere in between
but don't let Heaven get you down
the world is turning, feels like faster every day
and you can't close your eyes & make it go away
but every morning the sunrise is to say
"don't let Heaven get you down"
I'll take the mountains, honey, you can have the moon
keep it in your cupboard for a rainy afternoon
and time flies faster when eternity means soon
so don't let Heaven get you down
in another lifetime, maybe then we'll understand
Angels & Devils & their walking hand in hand
'cause there've been questions ever since this all began
so don't let Heaven get you down

Death of Me
02:54
|
|||
I thought I heard your whisper
in the mutter of the leaves
when morning breaks it doesn't take
a fool to still believe
but oh, this is not my hand to hold
honey, you'll be the death of me I know
I couldn't see the sunlight
I was blinded by your face
and Eden, babe, beneath your feet
don't seem too out of place
but oh, I've said it must be so
honey, you'll be the death of me I know
well time is not for lovers, babe
it only clips their wings
and dawn is just a dirge that all
the brokenhearted sing
but oh, won't you tell me when you go?
honey, you'll be the death of me I know
don't worry about tomorrow babe
just worry about today
what makes a ring worth anything
is nothing gold can stay
but oh, won't you let your flowers grow
honey, you'll be the death of me I know

The Hand That Signs
02:47
|
|||
the hand that signs the paper can
in simple lines of ink
put millions from their homes to die
send every ship to sink
can raise a thousand battle flags
can burn a thousand more
can hold a nation in its palm
and send it off to war
it plays us like a game of chess
all laid out on a board
the gilded hand plays on and on
yet never growing bored
the kings and queens stay safe, it seems,
behind the lines of pawns
the bishops stand in castles, and
the fighting rattles on
it's easy, yes, to wave a hand
sat safe behind a desk
to put a rifle in my arms
to do what God detests
to pull the earth from 'neath our feet
leave no place left to stand
to crush this planet down to dust
within that awful hand
but someday soon, I must believe,
that hand will lose its grip
the rings that weigh its fingers down
with soon begin to slip
the flames will catch, the dam shall burst,
the waters will flow free
the sun shall set and rise again
a brighter light to see

Along the Shore
01:30
|
|||
I was born by the river
and I dare say when I die
I'll be wanting for the water
that never will run dry
so lay me in the muddy
earth that lies along the shore
of the river that is running
running on forever more.
